The extension design with a basement on Southborough Lane. The design is unusual due to the fact that the upper half of the basement walls was constructed first, which we then had to underpin in a sequence to maintain the integrity of each underpin. This approach was chosen to ensure the stability of the existing buildings and to avoid the very deep excavations that we would have faced had the foundation slab been constructed first. The ground floor structure is supported by steel beams directly bearing on the reinforced concrete basement walls. Our scope included the structural design as well as RC bending drawings and schedules.
